Tsuru robotics acquired the grant from Skolkovo Foundation and developed a system of group drone cartography for agricultural fields or, in a broader sense, for extensive areas.
How it works. Agronomist remotely selects the field and presses the button. The ground station uploads coordinate into drones. UAVs exchange information and distribute the field among themselves. After that, drones take off and start flying around and photographing their areas. During the flight, UAVs exchange information about their condition since in case of failure or accident of one drone, others redistribute its work and take it over. In addition to exchanging information, drones are continually sending photos to the ground. The ground station constructs the panoramic photo of the area in real time.
Since now, no one created a system of group photography because it is a very complicated technology. Another innovation that we developed is decentralized “communication” among drones: drones independently distribute the mission. If the computer on the ground goes down, the drones will continue to fly and take pictures and complete the mission on their own. Besides, currently existing drones return to the ground, upload pictures, and then the ground station begins the process of image building, which can take up to several hours. In our system, the creation of a panoramic image takes place during the flight.
We entirely fulfilled the conditions of the grant: we developed the algorithm for decentralized distribution, implemented the panoramic image building algorithm in real time, built two drones, which successfully carried out the full test flight.
Next step for the company is to increase the number of drones in the “brigade”.
