Tsuru Robotics has created the world’s first drone shooting range – a laser-shooting system for flying drones. Moreover, participants can become both shooters and test themselves in piloting target drones, which does not require any special skills.
The drone shooting range program has three game modes.
The shooter and the pilot participate. The shooter aims to score as many points as possible by hitting the drone. The goal of the pilot who controls the drone is to avoid shots.
Two shooters compete with each other. As in the dash, the goal is to get the maximum number of points by shooting at drones that are controlled by autopilot (the trajectory of the drone can be set almost any).
TUG OF WAR
Two shooters are involved. The goal is to “pull” the drone to your side. The drone maneuvers inside the field and moves to the side of the player who has more hits. The game ends when the time expires or if one of the players finally “dragged” the drone.
In the drone shooting range, the weapon is fired with an imitation of a strong recoil – this is a replica of the M4A1 rifle (modified for shooting single shots). With this rifle, the participant shoots at flying drones (their dimensions are approximately 20 cm) and earns points. The system is based on laser shooting range technology: the rifle is a laser, while the receiver is mounted on a drone. Moreover, laser weapons are absolutely safe, which allows even teenagers to participate in the game.
The target can be located at a distance of up to 30 meters from the shooter. Installation of a drone shooting range is possible even in relatively small indoor areas.
When developing the system, Tsuru Robotics engineers managed to solve several problems, the main of which is the synchronization of all actions: the shot, the hit, and the transmission of information about the hit to the ground.
Hit statistics are broadcasted on the screen in real-time and accompanied by sound and light signals, which helps players better navigate the game and makes it more gambling.
The drone shooting range’s first tests showed that the most popular mode is the tug-of-war mode, in which the principle of competition is most clearly implemented.
