In the early autumn of 2018, the representatives of the Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) addressed Tsuru Robotics with a proposal for cooperation. ITRI was founded in 1973, and today it has become one of the leading technological institutions in the world. 270 innovative companies were created on ITRI basis during its existence. Representative offices of the Institute are located around the world: in Silicon Valley, Berlin, Tokyo, Moscow, and other cities.
ITRI approached us with a proposal: to install our specialized autopilots on their large drones. So our CTO Nikita Rodichenko went to Taiwan.
We installed Tsuru Robotics Micropix autopilot in a tailored for large unmanned systems design on one of the ITRI drones models – a six-propeller with dimensions of more than two meters. Large systems modification includes a specially designed case and an extended set of connectors with the possibility of connecting up to 18 actuators or motors. We also installed a combined GPS+compass module connected via CAN-bus and a laser altimeter among other onboard equipment.
In addition to the installation and adjustment of the autopilot, our specialist participated in the conference, which was attended by representatives of Chinese and Japanese companies. During the conference, ITRI held a presentation of the drone with our control system. The drone successfully carried a load weighing more than 13 kilograms in a strong wind.
After some time, Tsuru Robotics CTO Nikita Rodichenko took the second trip to Taiwan. This time he went to work with 2 drones – an eight-propeller one with a diameter of more than three meters and an 18-propeller one with a diameter of about four meters and a load capacity of several tens of kilograms. Again, our equipment has proved to work excellent for large drones.
The drones equipped with Tsuru Robotics autopilots will be used for fast delivery and lifting of telecommunications equipment for commercial purposes
